What is the typical length of a DJ set?
When booking a DJ to play at your event, they'll be happy to quote to accommodate your schedule. For a wedding party, the usual length of time a DJ will play is 4-5-hrs, depending on whether a wedding band is also performing. You could be looking at hiring for up to 8 hours for all-day sessions.
What type of music do your DJs in Liverpool play?
An experienced DJ can draw upon many different genres to match the mood and ensure no dance floor is ever vacant. With thousands of songs at their disposal, our Liverpool DJs can create a diverse playlist to get your party in full swing.
Able to work around your preferences, our Liverpool DJs understand the importance of music at an event and will always do their best to accommodate any particular requests. Some ideas to get the creative juices flowing include:
- Pop
- Rock & Indie
- Motown/Soul
- Disco
- Dance/EDM
- Retro/Electro Swing
- Ibiza Anthems
What Equipment Will My Wedding DJ Provide?
Most mobile DJs are self-sufficient and provide all the equipment needed to perform. A DJ will use a sound system suitable for a typical wedding party of around 200 guests. A professional DJ can also adapt their setup for larger events.
PA system
This refers to the speakers the DJ will use, which usually stand on either side of the DJ booth. Compact PA systems are great for smaller venues while providing incredible sound quality.
DJ Lighting
The lighting provided will depend on the package you've opted for when booking. At a minimum, most DJs will provide LED lights to illuminate the dance floor and create a party atmosphere. Higher-end DJs will often provide more advanced lighting, such as up-lighters which can be wirelessly placed around the room for added ambience.
Microphones (for speeches and announcements)
Most DJs will provide one or two microphones and allow clients to use these for speeches on request.
DJ Booth
Upon arrival at the venue, the DJ will set up and make the area look as presentable as possible. This often includes disguising the table upon which they are set up with a cloth, often made of soft fabric, patterned or plain.
iPod Vs DJ?
A common question is whether to hire a DJ or just play music from a device such as a phone's tablet or an MP3 device such as an iPod.
Using an iPod is an inexpensive option and does allow you to load the exact type of music you want to hear. The major downside is that you'll need to bring or hire a speaker system which can be a logistical challenge. Furthermore, an unattended iPod is prone to be fidgeted with, which could lead to a break in the music or, worse, a technical issue preventing playback completely!
How much does it cost to hire a DJ in Liverpool?
Expect to pay anywhere in the region of £400-£600 to hire a Liverpool DJ for an evening wedding reception or party. For a more established and experienced DJ, prices will start from approximately £800. DJs provide various packages to suit most budgets and event types.
What additional extras do your DJs offer?
On top of providing the essentials such as lighting and PA, DJs sometimes offer additional extras to enhance the audio/visual experience.
These additional extras can include the following:
- An upgraded lighting package (wireless lights)
- Wireless Microphones (for speeches and announcements)
- Larger PA (better sound quality and to support larger audiences/venues)
- Backdrops (LED Video Walls displaying branded imagery, perfect for corporate functions!)
What does a typical wedding DJ schedule look like?
When booking a Liverpool DJ to perform alongside a wedding band, you'll find the schedule below works well.
- 6 pm/6:30 pm - Meal and Speeches End / Band and DJ set up
- 7:30 pm – Evening Guests Arrive, and the Evening Officially Begins
- 8:15 pm – The Cutting of the Cake
- 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm – First Dance and Band Set 1
- 9:30 pm – Evening Buffet / DJ
- 10:15 pm – Band Set 2
- 10:15pm - midnight - DJ to finish
For events where a band is not present, the DJ will play to a schedule agreed upon in advance by the client.
How Long Does it Take a DJ to set up?
Upon arriving at the venue, the DJ will need to unload their equipment, load it into the venue, set up and do a quick sound check. This typically takes between 45 minutes to an hour. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate, and the exact time it takes for your DJ to set up may vary depending on the individual DJ and the specifics of your event.
Can we discuss the music with the DJ beforehand?
If you have a particular theme for the party or like a particular genre of music, your DJ can take this on board to create your perfect party playlist.
If you have specific songs that you would like to be played at your event, most DJs will happily accommodate your requests. While many DJs have a large collection of songs to choose from, having access to WIFI at the venue can be helpful if they need to find a song that isn't already in their library. This will ensure your DJ is able to play all of the songs you want, and that your event is tailored to your musical preferences.
