Saxophonist FAQs

We've outlined some of the most common queries our clients have when booking a sax player for their special event.

Why book a saxophonist?

A sax player can add a unique touch of class to a wide range of events. Although rooted in jazz, blues and soul, the saxophone is a highly versatile instrument that transcends genre and can be presented in pretty much any form. Whether it's a chilled out afternoon of jazz or an energetic evening of floor fillers, the sax has got you covered.

What types of sax players are available?

Saxophone works well as a solo instrument. Most solo players will incorporate high-quality backing tracks to broaden the span of repertoire available to them and keep the audience engaged.

Our musicians include saxophonists accompanied by a pianist, saxophone quartets, and even Ibiza style sax players with DJs.

If sax is your thing and you'd like to go the extra mile, you might also be interested in our jazz outfits or function bands that feature saxophone in their set.

What style of music do Saxophonists play?

Although sax is often considered a Jazz instrument, it lends itself to classical, pop, funk, soul and club anthems. When booking your Saxophonist, scroll the setlist to get an idea of the musician's style or to get some inspiration.

What type of events do Saxophonists play?

Sax players are a popular choice for weddings, receptions and corporate functions but can enhance just about any party or public gathering.

Solo musicians, duos and small ensembles tend to be favoured for the afternoon or early evening entertainment, such as welcome drinks.

Ibiza style club DJs with sax is ever-growing in popularity. This type of performance is perfect for a club-style evening for those looking to relive the memories of Ministry of Sound and Ibiza all-nighters.

What equipment does a Sax player provide?

The instruments tend to be an Alto Sax (slightly smaller instrument), or a Tenor Sax which are slightly deeper in tone. You can also expect to see a small PA that will help amplify the saxophone and balance the sound with any backing tracks or other musicians.

Can a saxophonist perform outside?

Yes, assuming temperate weather conditions, most musicians are happy to play outside. Please ensure there's a suitable power supply and shelter in case of any unforeseen weather changes.

It would also be considerate to give prior notice to the musician that the performance will take place outside, as it may assist them in their attire or extra equipment they might bring.

Do Sax players take song requests?

Most musicians are happy to accept requests with reasonable notice, and some musicians might require the client to provide a backing track or cover the purchase cost. Please voice your requests when enquiring and booking your musician.

How much does a saxophonist charge?

Saxophonist prices typically range between £250 and £600, but prices vary from act to act depending on requirements, travel distance and timings. Please enquire for a precise quote.
