Wedding Saxophone Player FAQs

If this is the first time you've hired a live musician, you're bound to have questions. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common queries, but if you need more help, please feel free to email us.

What type of music do Saxophonists play at weddings?

Being a melodic instrument, a talented saxophonist can play various styles, including pop, jazz, and soul/funk. For a wedding, you'll often hear popular renditions of classic chart songs from the last 50 years being played, including famous songs that feature sax as a key element, such as Careless Whisper by Wham or Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

With a wide repertoire, wedding saxophonists can play everything from jazz standards to Ibiza-style sax hits and contemporary pop.

How much does it cost to hire a saxophonist in the UK?

To hire a solo sax player for a wedding ceremony or drinks reception, you'll be typically looking to spend anywhere between £350-500. For evening receptions, prices tend to increase to £500 and above. For private and corporate events, fees start at the £500 mark and can increase to £1000 depending on the booking length and type of event.

Do Wedding Saxophonists perform with backing tracks?

Most of the time, you'll find that solo sax musicians play along to high-quality backing tracks. This is done to fill out the sound and to give context to the saxophonist's melodies. Our wedding saxophonists usually provide their own PA system to amplify their sound.

Alternatively, they can connect an in-house sound system or work with an on-site AV team taking care of the production.

Can Sax players perform with a DJ or other musicians?

Not just a solo instrument, saxophone players are versatile and can fit into most band configurations, whether performing alongside a DJ or other live musicians. The combination of Sax and DJ is a popular option for evening receptions or events where budget or space is a consideration.

For those wanting a full band with a big sound, a sax can comfortably fit alongside other brass players creating a horn section which sounds great for large-scale party, Motown-type bands.

What part of the day are Sax players usually booked for?

A wedding saxophonist can be hired to serenade guests throughout a cocktail drinks reception, wedding breakfast or evening party. Most sax players are happy to quote for whatever event you have in mind and will cater their performance and musical choices to suit.

Do your musicians provide all their own equipment?

As standard, our solo musicians will provide their own instruments and a small PA system if hired for a solo recital. If your venue requires that any visiting musician provide evidence of Public Liability Insurance and PAT testing, these documents can be sent over when required.

How much space does a Sax player need?

Most solo saxophonists don't require much space to set up and perform. As a general guide, we recommend allocating a space of 2 x 2 meters with nearby access to power.

Many sax players have wireless microphones and can therefore move freely across the room.

Why Hire a Saxophone player?

A solo saxophone player is ideal for those who love the sound of the sax and the music associated with the instrument. It's an instantly recognisable sound, and with many famous songs released with the instrument featured heavily, it's a perfect choice to accompany a wide range of events.
